Assuming you mean "D standard, Drop C" when you say "C Standard," then maybe this person is confusing guitar for bass. Drop tunings that put the bottom string a P5 below the next string allow guitarists to easily play rapid-fire moving power chords on those strings simply by barring the bottom two or three strings.

May 3, 2009 Hiding in the comet's tail Playing a half step up from B shouldn't require new strings. When you think about it ,THEY (the guitars)are dropped. You shouldn't have to change anything. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing this at all. If you absolutely need to do both C-standard and EADG, I'd recommend setting up for C, then tuning down a half step to BEAD when you need to play in standard tuning. .120 or .125 on your low string should do the trick. Back in the day you needed to get a 5-string set and toss the G.
